Clean Green for Whom?

Greetings Readers

I wonder if the “clean green image” that is touted as being the pivotal marketing image of New Zealand overseas really stands up to scrutiny.

It is ironic that the very thing that we attach this image to is also the primary source of the criticism – livestock production from pasture. It is an inseparable fact that we can’t have one without the other.

The government would be foolish to agree to impossible constraints for methane gas production from the pastoral industry. This vain hope to meet standards that appease the image makers and the conservationists but not the unique conditions that enables pastoral farmers to be equal to the rest of the world in the production of quality food and fibre.

Good farming
