Sheep & Beef Farmers: Vote Now! Thursday, Aug 28, 2003
News from MeatNZ of low voter turnout for the MeatNZ/SheepCo referendum is very disappointing says Ian Corney, Chairman of New Zealand Meat and Fibre Producers
"The result of the vote will mean significant changes for the industry, whether it is 'yes' or 'no'. It is important for farmers to consider the proposals put forward and weigh up the consequences of their vote.
Farmers have until 5pm Friday 29 August to vote in the Farmer's Choice referendum to decide the future of meat and wool levies. The referendum will decide whether farmers will continue pay to levies to fund a range of activities.
"Plenty of information is available to help farmers make an informed decision, and I encourage farmers who have not yet voted to do so before it is too late. This is an important decision for the future of the industry and should not be taken lightly.
"This is a chance for farmers to have their say in the future of their organisation" concluded Mr Corney.
