Leadership Development Programme for Young Farmers Thursday, Jul 24, 2003
New Zealand Young Farmers members now have the opportunity to participate in a leadership development programme specifically targeted to their needs.
‘Instilling Leadership into Young Farmers’ is a programme aimed to develop a range of leadership and personal skills through hands on, participative workshops. From an idea conceived by Young Farmers and funded by MAF’s Sustainable Farming Fund the programme starts in August and will be held throughout New Zealand until June 2005.
“Young Farmers is excited about being able to continue to train and upskill New Zealand’s future rural leaders says James Allen, President of New Zealand Young Farmers.
“We were starting to redevelop our leadership programme to focus on club level when the Sustainable Farming Fund option was presented. It was an opportunity too good to miss, and we are please that the value in upskilling rural leaders was recognised”.
Skills modules offered include communication, presentation and speaking skills, event planning and operation; how to run a meeting, project management, proposal preparation, and strategic planning. Each participant can also undergo personal coaching during the programme’s duration of 12-18 months.
