USDA Market News - New Zealand Meat Export Summary and PricesTuesday, Mar 25, 2003
Beef: U.S. beef trade has almost come to standstill with imported and domestic prices weakening. Prime cuts to non-U.S. markets have improved but some exporters feel these markets also could be running out of steam. Despite stronger NZ$ and weaker hide prices farmgate prices generally steady.
Lamb: Kiwi$ bounced back last week, eroding most of exchange rate gains from previous week. Though slipe wool returns lower, meat returns holding, but remain under pressure within EU. Non-EU markets are strong, continuing to benefit from lower Australian production. Middle East has been notable exception.
